Skype for Business 2015 and Remote Users

What can managers do to improve the remote experience?


In most Skype for Business 2015 deployments, we the administrators have two (2) primary user environments that we need to deal with:

• Internal

• External

The biggest difference between these two (2) environments is in the level of control and influence that we as managers and administrators have over each. Clearly, we have far more impact on the user experience while operating within our brick and mortar facilities. It is fairly easy for us to optimize everything, to the extent we need, want or can afford, to provide an optimal experience for our internal Skype for Business clients. In the external environment, we have almost no control or influence over the infrastructure on which our remote users ride and frequently on the endpoint equipment they use. This can lead to a very different user experience for the remote user; and it is usually an inferior experience to their internal counterparts.

The good news is that there are some things that we as managers and administrators can do to improve the remote user experience. We can provide hardware and software tools to our remote users to help them succeed and we can provide guidelines and recommendations to them to help optimize some of the external environments in which they work.
